A private-label rope is two specifications joined together:
- the cordage specification; and
- the sellable-unit specification.
Treating the label as an afterthought usually creates gaps. The reel, length, artwork, barcode and carton count can affect the item just as much as the rope diameter or color.
Product specification
Start with a current sample, photo, catalog item or written specification. Record:
- material and construction;
- diameter, twine size or conductor construction;
- length or weight per unit;
- color or pattern;
- intended use and any buyer-specified performance requirements.
For electric fence lines, add the format (polywire or polyrope), conductor material and count, resistance target, reel length and fence context.
Sellable-unit specification
Define how the buyer will receive and resell the item:
- spool, reel, coil, ball, hank or cut-length pack;
- label, header card, sleeve or bag;
- artwork dimensions and print file;
- buyer-supplied barcode data and languages;
- inner-pack and master-carton quantities;
- required shipping marks.
Keep open items explicit
Do not turn assumptions into order specifications. If a spool type, print method, sample route, quantity, timing or document requirement has not been confirmed, list it as an open item in the RFQ.
