Cotton Rope
Soft, natural and knot-friendly — chosen for decoration, crafts, pet products and packaging where hand feel and appearance matter more than strength.
| Floats on water? | No — sinks |
|---|---|
| UV resistance | Poor — degrades outdoors |
| Stretch behavior | Low-to-moderate; not elastic like nylon |
| Water absorption | Absorbs water readily; slow to dry, can mildew |
| Handling feel | Soft, warm, matte natural look; kind to hands |

| Fiber type | Natural cellulose fiber |
| Strength | Far below synthetic fibers of the same diameter |
| Outdoor durability | Poor — absorbs moisture, can rot and mildew |
| Hand feel | Soft and comfortable; easy to knot and dye |
| Heat behavior | Does not melt; chars at high temperature |
| Relative cost | Low-to-mid by weight, but weaker per mm |
Cotton rope is bought for its feel and appearance, not its performance. It is soft in the hand, takes knots beautifully, can be dyed in deep matte colors and gives packaging, display and craft products a natural character that synthetics cannot imitate.
Its limitations are equally clear: cotton absorbs water, rots outdoors and is far weaker than any synthetic rope of the same diameter. For buyers, the correct frame is “indoor, decorative, hand-contact” — anything structural or outdoor belongs in PP, PE, nylon or polyester.

Constructions made from Cotton (natural fiber)
3 Strand Twisted Rope
The classic rope construction: three strands twisted in a spiral. Economical, easy to inspect and the easiest construction to splice.
Solid Braided Rope
A firm, round braid with a compact core — keeps its shape, resists rotation and runs smoothly. The standard flagpole halyard construction.
Diamond Braided Rope
A flexible maypole braid, with or without a core. Soft handling, smooth surface — the everyday “hardware store” braided rope and utility cord.
